Smoking with herbs, resins or spices is an ancient custom that has long been widespread in many cultures. Celts smoked incense on their home altars, in the Orient a particularly pronounced scent and incense culture developed in honor of the gods, and Indian tribes in America strived for healing and harmony with nature. While in the Western world it is mainly about aromatizing rooms and changing the atmosphere, in shamanism incense is used for other purposes: There, targeted incense with certain herbs is intended to bring about a change in the state of consciousness and enable a connection to other worlds. In the Catholic Church, incense scents are still an integral part of religious rituals today
You are completely free "for what" you smoke incense, whether to cleanse your personal environment of negative energies, for a deep ritual with beings from other planets, to heal your body, to enjoy the senses and to relax or just to work. ..it is entirely up to you what you use these effective herbs for, which had their foundation among the North American Indians, the “Native Americans”, and the Indian culture.
Generally, people smoke and steam to achieve certain effects. Be it to recover from a depressive mood by smoking incense, to ground yourself with appropriate substances or to simply feel good.
Smoking is often a meditative work that you give to yourself. The smoke and the scent surround the body and mind and we can surrender ourselves.
Active ingredients from herbs, woods, resins and everything else that can be smoked usually find their way into the body through the skin and, more rarely, as is assumed, through the nose.
Lightly steaming a plant's active ingredient can have its effect on the organism without smelling great. “Less is more” can hold a lot of truth when it comes to steaming.
