TSAVORITE FROM MERELANI, TANZANIA – NATURAL GREEN GARNET CRYSTALS

These beautiful tsavorite crystals originate from the famous mineral mining area of Merelani in Tanzania and delight with their exceptional natural shades of green.

The six specimens exhibit various color nuances, ranging from deep dark green and intense grass green to a delicate, partially translucent mint green.

Particularly fascinating are the varied crystal formations and the partially preserved dark rock inclusions, which create a beautiful contrast to the green garnet crystals.

WHAT IS TSAVORITE?

Tsavorite is the green gemstone variety of grossular garnet.

Its characteristic green color is primarily caused by trace amounts of chromium and vanadium within the crystal lattice.

The mineral was discovered in East Africa in the 1960s and later named after Tsavo National Park in Kenya.

High-quality, transparent tsavorites are particularly prized as faceted gemstones.

Naturally grown raw crystals, on the other hand, are of special interest to mineral collectors as they showcase the original crystal habit and the mineral's natural formation.

THE FAMOUS MERELANI HILLS

The Merelani Hills in Tanzania are among the internationally renowned mining areas for extraordinary gemstones and minerals.

The region is particularly famous for its tanzanite deposits.

In addition to tanzanite, beautiful green grossular garnets are also found there, including intensely colored tsavorites and light green grossulars.

The unique geological conditions of this deposit allow for the creation of a fascinating variety of natural crystal shapes and color variations.

The green garnet crystals from Merelani are therefore interesting collector's items for enthusiasts of African minerals.
