The spinning snail

Turban or top snails (Latin: Turbinidae) are grazers. They live at depths of up to 20m and feed on algae that grows on corals or stones. During its lifetime, the sea animal wears a "protective door", the so-called operculum or Shiva's eye, which protects the animal's life in the event of attacks by pulling it in front of the opening of the snail shell using the snail's muscular strength.

After the animal's natural demise, the stone dissolves and is released as the "Shiva Eye". Although there are over 300 species of snails worldwide, only a few of the protective shells released are characterized by the blaze of color, as is the case with the Shiva eyes of the Asian and Australian seas. Other species are also found in Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. The Shiva eyes found in Thailand in particular are ideal for further processing as gemstones due to their high quality and intense coloring.
Mineral and healing properties

Shiva eyes are a crystallized form of aragonite with a special structure. Just like real pearls, this is a calcium carbonate that reaches a hardness of 4 to 4.5 in Shiva eyes. Aragonite stimulates sensitivity, has a balancing and calming effect on general feelings and reduces nervousness and fatigue. The stone has a very positive effect on tense muscles, joints, tissue and skin due to its high calcium content.
