Clinochlore is a magnesium, iron, aluminum silicate. Its crystals are tabular although this mineral also occurs in massive, foliated, scaly, granular or earthy habits. There is a notable chemical variety in these minerals, which include Seraphinite, Cookeite and Kammererite. Clinochlore is most often green, although is may be white, yellow, colorless or purple. Clinochlore can be found in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Scotland Turkey, Russia and the USA.

Seraphinite is a variety of Clinochlore and is a hydrous magnesium, iron, aluminum silicate. Its crystal system is monoclinic. Seraphinite is only found in the Lake Baikal region of Siberia, Russia. It is characterized by its deep green color that is laced with shimmering patterns of silver that move with changing angles of light reflection. Seraphinite derives its name from its perceived link with Seraphim, the highest order of angels because of its feather like mica inclusions in the stone.
