Rutile with hematite from Brazil – Golden rutile stars on black crystals

This exceptional mineral specimen from Brazil delights with its fascinating combination of deep black, metallic-lustrous hematite crystals and numerous golden-yellow rutile needles.

The striking, tabular hematite crystals form a three-dimensional crystal cluster. Fine, golden-yellow rutile crystals grow on their dark surfaces, partially arranging themselves in star-like and fan-like patterns.

The strong contrast between the mirroring black of the hematite and the golden, filigree rutile needles is particularly impressive.

Depending on the incidence of light, the crystals sparkle with varying intensity, constantly revealing new details of their natural intergrowths.

Origin & Mineralogy

• Minerals: Rutile and Hematite
• Origin: Brazil
• Size: approx. 42 × 32 × 10 mm
• Color: Black, dark gray and golden yellow
• Luster: Metallic to adamantine
• Crystal form: Tabular hematite with acicular (needle-like) rutile
• Special feature: Star-shaped rutile intergrowths on hematite

What makes this mineral specimen special?

Rutile is a naturally occurring titanium dioxide (TiO₂), which frequently forms fine, needle-like crystals.

Hematite is an iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) that occurs, among other forms, as dark gray to black, metallic-lustrous crystals.

In this particular mineral combination, the rutile needles grow in characteristic directions on the hematite crystals.

This creates fascinating, sometimes star-shaped structures, which are also known among collectors as rutile stars or rutile suns.

The combination of different crystal forms, the metallic luster, and the golden rutile needles makes such intergrowths particularly interesting collector's minerals.

An extraordinary natural piece

You will receive exactly the rutile-hematite specimen pictured, with the dimensions 42 × 32 × 10 mm.

The numerous golden-yellow rutile needles and the strikingly formed black hematite crystals make this specimen a special eye-catcher in any mineral collection.

A fascinating individual piece for lovers of extraordinary crystal formations, rare mineral intergrowths, and Brazilian minerals.

Please handle with care, as the fine rutile needles can be delicate.
