Natural ruby crystals from Tanzania – pink to purplish-red raw crystals
These beautiful ruby crystals from Tanzania impress with their natural, hexagonal crystal forms and their extraordinary pink to purplish-red hues.
The crystals possess clearly recognizable, naturally grown crystal faces and display a fascinating combination of soft pink surfaces, deeper reddish areas, and fine natural inclusions.
Each crystal is an individual piece of nature with its own unique coloration, structure, and surface markings.
ORIGIN & MINERALOGY
• Mineral: Ruby (red variety of corundum)
• Chemical formula: Al₂O₃
• Origin: Tanzania, Africa
• Size: approx. 27–32 mm
• Color: Pink to purplish-red
• Crystal system: Trigonal
• Mohs hardness: 9
• Form: Natural, predominantly hexagonal raw crystals
• Processing: Not cut or polished
The ruby crystals differ not only in their natural form and coloration but also in their translucency.
The four larger specimens, with a size of about 30–32 mm, are opaque.
The slightly smaller crystal, at approx. 27 mm, possesses a special characteristic: when backlit with a powerful flashlight, it reveals a beautiful reddish translucency.
This effect is especially apparent under targeted lighting and gives the smaller specimen its very own character.
WHAT MAKES NATURAL RUBY CRYSTALS SPECIAL?
Ruby belongs to the corundum mineral group and is one of the most famous gemstone varieties in the world.
Its characteristic red color is primarily created by small amounts of chromium in the crystal lattice.
While transparent rubies are often cut into faceted gemstones, naturally grown raw crystals are particularly interesting for mineral collectors.
Their original crystal forms offer a fascinating glimpse into the natural formation of this extraordinary mineral.
