Prehnite was named by the mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner after the Dutch Baron and Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who brought the first of these gemstones to Europe in 1783. He found it in South Africa in the Cape Province (Cape of Good Hope), which is how the trade names Cape Emerald and Cape Chrysolite came about. Stories about prehnite say that it was already known in Australia before colonization and was considered a stone of life by the Aborigines. It is said to be a very strong protective stone.

Effects of Prehnite
Prehnite is very good at resolving neuroses, blockages or depressions that have arisen from unresolved or suppressed emotional conflicts, memories or experiences. In problematic situations, it makes you aware of these processes and makes it clear that they would normally have influenced your thinking and actions. It increases your awareness of yourself and your environment and thus promotes more self-acceptance. It also allows you to be more careful with your environment, as it has a relaxing effect and calms the mind. The effects of yellow and green prehnite are the same, except that the green one is much stronger and also increases your ability to understand.
