Orthoceras cephalopod fossil as a chain ~ including 2mm leather cord for knotting.
The first representatives of nautiloids living in the sea had a cylindrical shell that was divided into segments. Locomotion in a horizontal position using the “recoil jet principle” by flowing in and squeezing out water.
Age: approx. 280 – 320 million years
Location: Altas Mountains, North Africa, Morocco
Occurrence: Ordovician to Triassic
Superorder: Orthocerida
Distribution: Europe, North Africa
Class: Cephalopoda cephalopods.
