The name of nephrite, which is also available commercially under the generic term “jade”, comes from the Greek word “nephron”, which means “kidney”. The reason for this is that the healing stone was used as an amulet against kidney diseases. Therefore it is also called a kidney stone. Nephrite occurs in green, almost black and many other colors, with its coloring substances being iron, calcium, chromium and magnesium. The stone is processed into objects or gemstones. The nephrite, which is mainly found in Australia and Canada, can have different colors in terms of appearance and shine like glass or like fat.
