Moldavite
Approximately 15 million years ago, moldavite was formed during the impact of a massive meteorite, approx. 1.5 km in size, in the Nördlinger Ries in Bavaria. The timing of this event was determined using potassium-argon dating. The immense energy of the meteorite impact caused rock to melt, with its components being ejected into the air and cooling in the process. The resulting minerals were scattered over hundreds of kilometers during this event. A large portion landed in what is now the Czech Republic, in the area of the Vltava River. Thus, the moldavite was found on the banks of the Vltava (Moldau) and therefore bears its name. Glasses that were created by a meteorite impact and transported over great distances are called tektites. Their discovery sites are called strewn fields. There are other moldavite strewn fields in the Czech Republic in West Bohemia. In Austria, it can be found in the Waldviertel region, and in Germany in Lusatia.
Meaning of Moldavite
Since moldavite originated from meteorite rock, it possesses a non-earthly energy. Its use in astrology, divination, channeling, or dream travel testifies to this aspect of moldavite. Findings from the Stone Age already document its use as an amulet stone.
Moldavite has a reputation for being a magical lucky stone. It is said to provide support for self-discovery. In addition, it helps us find solutions to various challenges or difficulties. It is also said to be able to support its wearer in fulfilling their wishes. On the other hand, it is considered a stone that is supposed to reduce our desire for material things.
