The name diopside is derived from the Greek words "di" meaning "two" and "opsis" meaning appearance. The combination of both terms describes the so-called birefringence of light in diopside. Incoming light rays are split into two partial rays.

Diopside is a mineral. In chemistry, it is classified as a magnesium silicate under the formula CaMg. Diopside is formed under high pressure and high temperatures by the combination of magnesium-containing and calcareous rock sediments. It is particularly common in marble and calc-silicate rocks. Diopside forms crystals up to 50 centimeters in size. Only some of these can be crafted into jewelry.


Diopside application

To enable direct and long-term physical contact, diopside is worn as a stone on a necklace. If it is intended to support the regeneration of certain body regions or stimulate functions, it is placed directly there. For internal use, a diopside water is prepared. To do this, a few stones are placed overnight in a glass container containing fresh tap water or still mineral water. The water can then also be used to make tea.
