Charoite was first discovered and described in 1976. Contrary to the assumptions of various sources, Charoite was not named after the Siberian river Chara (Tschara, Tschar), but rather after the Russian word "chary", which means charming or enchanting.
It is only found in this region. At first glance, this gemstone looks very similar to sugilite, but upon closer inspection it can be distinguished from it by its white inclusions.
Charoite is one of the most important healing stones of all."
