OPAL
Pliny the Elder, a significant scholar from ancient Rome, was quite impressed by the wonderful effect and radiance of the opal: “For it has within it the inner fire – it possesses the purple spark of the amethyst, the sea-green of the emerald, and an altogether incredible mixture of light.” This stone enchants with its very special shimmer: the luminous play of color known as opalescence...
The History of the Opal
The word opal originally comes from Latin – “opalus” means something like ‘precious stone’, although there is also a derivation from Sanskrit, which is not scientifically proven. Opals have always been considered very valuable gemstones, sometimes even valued higher than diamonds. It is no wonder, therefore, that opals were traded as very special stones in antiquity and ancient India and were popular for their positive effect on the human soul.
The Effect of the Opal
On a physical level, the shimmering opal automatically ensures more joy, more harmony, and more balance with its positive effect. It promotes our eyesight, has a balancing effect on sexual disorders, and strengthens the digestive tract: food can be processed faster and better, which also boosts the metabolism and helps shed pounds. On a psychological level, the opal has a harmonizing, calming, and mood-lifting effect, which is why it can also be helpful for dejection and mood swings. And the black opal is an extremely valuable and sought-after stone, not only because of its rarity: it is said to have almost mystical powers that enable our mind to see many things more clearly – medially gifted people are also supported in their clairvoyance by the black opal.
The opal unfolds its effect best on the throat chakra. On an astrological level, it is assigned to the star signs Aquarius, Cancer, Sagittarius, and Pisces. To enjoy your piece of jewelry for a long time, you should never place opals in the sun, as they dry out extremely quickly, which leads to the stones fading rapidly. Opals also react very sensitively to acids, soaps, make-up, or perfume. It is best to spray opals with water once a month. To discharge, simply rinse regularly under lukewarm running water and then charge for a few hours with a rock crystal! Opal necklaces should be discharged once a month overnight in a bowl of hematite tumbled stones and charged with a rock crystal.
With its intense play of colors, the fire opal gemstone captivates with a breathtaking wealth of facets. In fire opal symbolism, these beautiful colored stones provide strength, promote creativity, and ignite sensual desire.
For thousands of years, people have been using the positive energies of gemstones to alleviate physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental problems. The stones transfer their positive vibrations and are also used as protective aids or good luck charms. In particular, the fire opal healing stone is a balancing colored stone that brings spontaneity, provides vitality, and animates the implementation of new ideas.
"The boulder opal comes from the Queensland region in Australia. More precisely, the boulder opal is found in the southwest of Queensland, specifically in Quilpie, Yowah, and Eromanga.
The sedimentary rock in this region dates back to the Cretaceous period. The rock therefore originates from a time that began around 145 million years ago with the end of the Jurassic period and ended about 66 million years ago with the beginning of the Paleogene. Through weathering processes over the course of time – far into the Tertiary – silica was released from the sea muds with their microorganisms, which was deposited in the impermeable rock crevices and cracks. The constant alternation of moisture and subsequent evaporation finally led to a solidification of the silica and thus to the beautiful opal."
