Origin of bouldering opal
"The bouldering opal comes from the Queensland region of Australia. More precisely, the bouldering opal can be found in the southwest of Queensland, namely in Quilpie, Yowah and Eromanga.
The sedimentary rocks in this region date back to the Cretaceous period. The rock thus dates back to a period that began around 145 million years ago with the end of the Jurassic and ended about 66 million years ago with the beginning of the Paleogene. As a result of weathering processes, silicic acid was released from the marine sludge with its microorganisms in the course of time - well into the Tertiary - which was deposited in the impermeable rock crevices and cracks. The constant change of moisture and subsequent evaporation finally led to a solidification of the silica and thus to the beautiful opal."
