PHENAKITE FROM NAMIBIA – NATURAL CRYSTAL FROM THE STIEPELMANN MINE

13x7x8mm

Weight: 4.5ct

This beautiful natural phenakite crystal comes from the Stiepelmann Mine in the Klein-Spitzkopje area of the Erongo Region in Namibia.

The smaller specimen delights with its interesting natural crystal form and its warm, light honey to champagne-colored tint.

The clearly visible crystal faces with their fine growth lines and natural structures are particularly beautiful.

In contrast to the larger, clearer specimen, this crystal has a somewhat higher opacity and shows interesting internal inclusions as well as small brownish mineral areas.

Depending on the incidence of light, the partially translucent areas and the different structures are shown to great advantage.

An interesting collector's item from one of Africa's best-known mineral regions.

WHAT MAKES PHENAKITE SPECIAL?

Phenakite is a comparatively rare beryllium silicate that is particularly prized for its natural crystal forms and its sometimes high transparency.

The mineral occurs in granitic pegmatites and certain metamorphic rocks, among others.

At first glance, phenakite can be reminiscent of rock crystal. Mineralogically, however, it is a distinct mineral with a different chemical composition and higher refraction.

Naturally grown phenakite crystals are particularly interesting for mineral collectors because they show the original crystal forms and the geological formation of the mineral.

THE STIEPELMANN MINE IN NAMIBIA
