WHAT MAKES PHENAKITE SPECIAL?

Phenakite is a comparatively rare beryllium silicate, prized especially for its clear crystals and interesting crystal morphology.

The mineral occurs in granitic pegmatites and certain metamorphic rocks, among others.

Due to its transparency, phenakite can at first glance resemble rock crystal. Mineralogically, however, it is a distinct mineral with a different chemical composition and a higher refractive index.

Naturally grown phenakite crystals are of particular interest to mineral collectors because they show the original crystal forms and the geological formation of the mineral.

THE STIEPELMANN MINE IN NAMIBIA

The Stiepelmann Mine is located in the Klein Spitzkoppe area of the Erongo region in Namibia.

This region is internationally known for its extraordinary mineral finds and the diversity of its granitic pegmatites.

Phenakite is among the interesting collector minerals of this mining region.

The original locality label with the precise origin information is included.
