This stone, which is easy to grind, has been used as a lime for thousands of years in folk medicine. It was mainly used as an additive for ointments and pastes against skin rashes, ulcers and warts. The Indians attributed different properties to the individual color variants of calcite. They believed that the bright red orange calcite stored solar power to protect humans from evil spirits.
