Apatite gemstone necklace including 2mm antique brown leather cord for knotting.
When you first start exploring the world of crystals and gemstones, it can be a little overwhelming at first. What makes these small and large energy stones so special? Which one is right for me, and what effects is it known for? And what do I actually do with it? Don't worry, we felt the same way at the beginning. The first thing you need to know is: you can't really go wrong. Gemstones can be easily integrated into your everyday life.
Gemstones are considered powerful companions, especially in a time when we spend most of our day staring at small screens. We quickly forget the world around us and feel disconnected – from nature, our fellow human beings, and ultimately, ourselves.
Although it's easy to forget amidst their dazzling colors and extraordinary cuts, gemstones originate from nature. They are formed from magma deep within the Earth or through high pressure exerted on a rock, and can transfer this energy to us. It often takes many thousands of years for a stone to reach the Earth's surface.
The stone you ultimately hold in your hands is therefore many years older and carries within it a great deal of wisdom and strength. Let this thought ground you, arrive in the present moment, and look not only to the future but also to what has already been. Only in this way can we learn.
Whether you simply wear your new companion and let it have its effect on you ~ or use it for rituals & ceremonies, is now in your hands.
The name apatite comes from the ancient Greek word apatáo, meaning "to deceive" or "to mislead." Abraham Gottlob Werner, a German geologist, coined this name, explaining that apatite closely resembles other stones, such as topaz or beryl.
Apatite is also known by the following names:
Abukumalite, Augustite, Belovite, Britolite, Davisonite, Dahlite, Dehrnite, Ellestadite, Francolite, Collophane, Lewistonite, Mangualdite, Moroxite, Nauruite, Podolite, Phosphorite, Queryct, Sombrerit, Asparagusstein, Staffelite or Wilkeit.
Mineralogy and formation of apatite
Apatite is a general term for a group of minerals that share a chemical similarity. They consist of minerals and trace elements such as magnesium, iron, phosphate, fluorine, or calcium and are subdivided into fluorapatite, chlorapatite, and hydroxyapatite. Their formation can be categorized as primary, secondary, or tertiary, or as liquid-magmatic, pneumatolytic, or hydrothermal. In alpine fissures, apatite develops tabular, spherical, or prismatic crystals, or a water-clear surface. It can also form in cellular feldspars, where it appears as a small, brilliant diamond.
Apatite application
Apatite's healing properties are best utilized when placed on the throat chakra. It can also be applied to the heart chakra. In this position, it is used in meditation for past-life regression, and it also promotes warmth and balance, aiding in the resolution of problems.
With apatite, direct skin contact is paramount; that is, it is placed on the affected area for an extended period. However, caution is advised, as raw stones often have very sharp edges and are therefore unsuitable for treatment. Tumbled stones are better suited, as their texture makes them feel pleasant and comfortable against the skin. The healing stone can also be placed in drinking water to allow it to enter the body. It is also possible to apply the resulting gemstone water externally. Overall, apatite is considered a very well-tolerated healing stone, and its effects become quite pronounced with regular use.
Effects of apatite
Apatite is believed to have healing properties primarily because it contains minerals that are also found in the human body. It can have an effect on both the physical and the mental/spiritual levels.
Effect on the body
The principle behind apatite's effects on the human body is based on the phosphate it contains. This healing stone can help mobilize energy sources and reserves, thus contributing to healthy sleep and eating habits. It aids in better nutrient absorption and, thanks to its calcium phosphate content, promotes calcium absorption from daily food intake. Overall, the stone helps boost vitality by promoting bodily regeneration. In addition, apatite has a positive influence on the kidneys and bladder. Furthermore, it can be used as a supportive therapy for numerous ailments affecting the joints, bones, throat, skin, or digestion.
Effect on the mind and soul
Apatite has a similar effect on the psyche as it does on the body. It can help reactivate energy flow and is effective in cases of lethargy, melancholy, lack of motivation and interest, exhaustion, and lack of drive. It can also have a positive effect on sadness, grief, and worry. Thus, apatite is a true comforter of the soul, particularly suitable as a complementary treatment for depression. On a mental level, it is a helpful support in overcoming challenges and difficulties and in solving problems. It helps to see things more clearly and to work with greater mental foresight and creativity.
Apatite Chakra and Zodiac Sign Association
Chakra therapy, or chakra meditation, is based on the premise that gemstones, for example, possess powerful energy. There are seven main chakras, each with a specific vibrational frequency that helps to channel valuable energy into the body and release energy blockages. Apatite is associated with the throat and heart chakras, where it exerts its full energetic effect. The corresponding astrological sign for this main stone is Sagittarius. It is believed to give people with this sign greater self-esteem, reduce inhibitions, and help them find and maintain inner balance.
