Apatite
The name apatite comes from the Greek word meaning "to deceive" (apatáo). This name stems from the fact that the stone is very often confused with other stones such as aquamarine, beryl, or calcite.
Apatite is anhydrous calcium phosphate. Often mistaken for other stones in the past, this healing stone became known primarily for its vibrant blue color. It is so popular as a healing stone because it is very rich in minerals that are also found in the human body.
Apatite – Origin and History
Apatite is found in Brazil, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Norway, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the United States.
Apatite occurs hydrothermally in pegmatites and metamorphic limestone, but also forms in magmatic rock or from organic material in sedimentary rock.
